The school moved to rural Stearns County in 1864 and again in conjunction with a re-organization in 1867, the new site being about four miles west of Saint Joseph. The location became known as Collegeville. A separate commercial college or department was opened in 1877. The legal name of the school was changed in 1883 to Saint John’s University.
