Malcolm Kennedy was a boot and shoe maker in the late 1860s, expanding his operation to include Silver & Copper Tipped Boots & Shoes by the 1870s. The coded message says “Information to all. Parents be sure you always purchase silver tipped boots and shoes. They wear three times longer than shoes not protected with tips. All this will be explained by calling at Malcolm Kennedy’s, Wabashaw, Minn.” Text and images from A History & Catalog of Minnesota Obsolete Notes & Scrip by R. Shawn Hewitt, copyright 2006. |
