The Bank of Saint Croix was the first attempt at banking in Minnesota Territory. In 1849 Danforth & Hufty engraved a 1-2 plate, and about $700 of signed notes were released in September of that year. See Fred Marckhoff’s biography of the Bank of Saint Croix in the introduction to Minnesota Private Bank Notes.
