He was found on a tax list in 1852 from Macon Co., GA.(116) Thomas J. Moody paid taxes on lot 74, 1st district, in Macon County. It is listed as 400 acres, so it apparently included the 200 acre section belonging to the Hewitts. He also acted as agent for John Hewitt's orphans, and paid taxes on two slaves valued at $2100. The two slaves must be Simon and Rhoda, the two slaves given to the children of John Hewitt from the estate of his father Rigdon Hewitt in North Carolina. Independent confirmation of the slave's names is needed. He moved about 1856 to Lowndes Co., GA. about the same time that Thomas' parents and family moved to Louisiana. He went by the name "Pappy". He was buried in New Redland Baptist Church Cemetery (West of Clyattville), Lowndes Co., GA. Middle name believed to be "Jones." Parents: William MOODY and Lavina JONES.
